JUST BACK FROM THE FRANCE@AND@UK@TOUR
POLYSICS is writing new songs right now. Writing this column inbetween the my free time and thatfs how come I was so slow.
SO! Just back from our France, UK tour and also performed at g02 Wireless Festivalh!! This tour was extremely deep full tour!!
The shows in the UK were awesome. Lots of people came to see us, the show was very exciting plus all venues super hot! Like a SAUNA! Because of the humidity in the venue, Kayofs synthesizer NORD LEAD broke down. The electric system short- circuit because of the heavy humidity. So@we had to rent one for gO2 Wireless Festivalh Hmmm, interesting.
Seriously what kind of humidity did we play in!!!
g02 Wireless Festivalh@was superb. gA big true delighth for POLYSICS to be able to perform at the main stage in Hyde Park. Also a time to say g Glad we played without changing our styleh.
And gIh was a bit different that day. Our songs are controlled by the digital sequence recorder so the tempo of our songs are always definite but that day I was very high tensed and the songs seemed awefully slow to me. This phenomenon sometimes happens every two years and this time it was at Hyde Park. I was very excited but on the other hand very gcoolh While I was playing, at the same time I was thinking about the past, present and the future plus other things. A first time experience.
During the show, I was tensed but was able to enjoy and eventually the stage was too good. A great moment.
Also I thought our music is gFUN!h and this gave me confidence. I quenched my thirst! g Go Go Hayashi!h Thanks to this, the new songs born during pre-production are very high tension.
I wanted to enjoy the moment after this show, but I had one more stage.(Haha!) The day before, right after the show at Wireless in Leeds, Kaiser Chiefsf bassist Simon asked me if I wanted to come on stage on the song gNa Na Na Naah But I couldnft stay till the very end of Kaiser Chiefsf shows due hotel reasons so Simon asked gHow about tomorrow?h And I said gOK!!!!!h My second experience since Kaiser Chiefs show in Japan!!! Yes, yes, I was very very nervous!! Itfs because Kaiser Chiefs seemed nervous too!!!!
Well oh course! They are now one of UKfs leading bands and the headliner for this four day festival. There must be lots of pressure. And sure, they should be nervous. There was a special set on stage for Kaiser Chiefs which did special moves. The air around the stage was heavy. Everyone, the stage staff members, the stage director, everyone looked nervous!!! I was very quietc as gentle are a lamb!!!!
OI OI OI!!Hey!!! Whatfs this!!!! Can I jump on stage in this air!!!! (My heartfs screaming) The stage director(whofs got a tuff look) has his hand on my shoulder, about to give me the ggo signalh. I wait like a gDogh And showtime! Half desperate, I jump in on gNa Na Na Naah I sang my heart out, danced and TRIPPED!! Wonder how many people were there.??It was great to be able to have fun with Ricky. The tense air among the members staff got easier. Great to see they enjoyed it!!
I couldnft hear my voice at all though!!!
Had a good time watching Kaiser Chiefs. Great show, strong with dignity.
A day full of good memories never to forget. Thank you 02 Wireless Festival 2007. THANK YOU everyone in France and the UK who came to our LIVE SHOW!!!!

U.S. TOUR DIARY-2
January 30th Tuesday San Francisco/Bottom of the Hill This is where we first played in San Francisco. On the tour with the RX BANDITS, we played here as well. Ishimaru was our drummer then... this venue brings back a lot of memories. It's been quite sometime since we last played here at the Bottom of the Hill.!!! The show's SOLD OUT!!!! Great!!! The sound person we met here was VERY GOOD!! His name is Skylar and is a big fan of Polysics. He offered to do the sound for us on this show!! So on with sound check, OK! Great, perfect!! A fat and tight sound, it feels terrific on stage!! All set for the show!! LIVE Starts!! Everything was too too exciting. San Fran"xxxx" Cisco, how can you get so crazy!!!(haha) Very steaming hot on stage (feels like a hot spa) but it was fun, felt extremely well. Polysics played sharp and tight! Yes, this is what I've been waiting for!!!! SAIKO!!!(meaning great, exciting in Japanese!) Will rock hard tomorrow!!!!! January 31st Wednesday Los Angeles/The Knitting Factory When we have a show in LA, it means "show at the Knitting Factory". And today the show here is sold out for the first time!!! It was also sold out yesterday, very very happy!!! Polysics has played several legendary shows here like "Hiro caught the flu but played", "Hiro hit his buttocks hard after diving from stage") and the show today was AMAZING! The audience "shook" at KAJA KAJA GOO!! Surprising!! The air in the venue was really high tensed. Seriously Great. Something new must be starting, something is about to change. Thank you everyone for coming to the show. And thank you again! Los Angeles. February 1st Thursday San Juan Capistrano We play here for the first time. A two hours drive from Los Angeles. The venue looks like a big restaurant? cafeteria? There's a big stage in the front. There's a family just having dinner, and others to see the show. A very unusual atmosphere, nothing like we've played before. On the wall of this venue, see small framed photos of legendary artists who have played here in the past. From "Donovan", "ZZ TOP" "Robert Phillip" to "Joe Strummer". And "DEVO". This place has a long history. Unfortunately, Kayo caught a cold and completely lost her voice. She was always able to clear such crisis and did sing the last night in LA but tonight.....her voice is gone. So tonight Polysics will do the "HIRO's onstage set list". SHOWTIME! This original atmosphere is nothing like I've experienced before......I'm perplexed...the long tables transformed into a runway and to tell you the truth, the show today was tuff!!(Haha!) Reminds me of a soccer game.....it's supposed to be a "home game" but there's only a small crowd compared to the competing team. Made me feel uncomfortable.(Ha!) Polysics rocked hard today. Let go home and have cup noodles. And so the tour continues.......

U.S. TOUR DIARY-1
US TOUR DIARY January 25th, Thursday Arrival Day/Seattle I wonder how many times we've toured the US. Getting used to the long flights. Slept well on the plane.( A special thanks to Ashra's "New Age Of Earth") And here I am in SEATTLE!! So off to get our luggage. Out flows our backpacks, equipment, instruments...pick up my guitar case(of course it's one of those hard ones)...hey something looks wrong. The lower side of the guitar case has a dent! A severe dent!!! It reminds me of Clash's "LONDON CALLING" jacket. Someone must of hammered it hard on the floor. I wonder how this happened. I want to know!! Must find out!! Fortunately my guitar wasn't damaged. Our US tour manager Sean and driver Mark came to pick us up at the airport!! Mark greeted us in a funny outfit like a old 60's animation character!! It's still morning, they are very hyper!! Thank you always for everything and please do take care of us! "YOROSHIKU!! So we first head off to our favorite "must go" Asian supermarket "UWAJIMAYA" to buy Japanese food for our tour!! Instant noodles, instant miso soup, Japanese snacks etc... YES! We're ready!! Then, we did a live performance on KEXP. Played 4 songs, "I My Me Mine" "Tei!Tei!Tei!" "each life each end" "Shizuka is a machine doctor". A good warm up for the tour starting from tomorrow. The translator for the radio show Masa said his favorite band is "FRICTION"(legendary japanese band) and he's seen them play when they were most popular! Wow!! I am heavily jetlagged. Very sleepy. Will rock hard tomorrow!! Good Night... January 26th, Friday Vancouver, BC./PLAZA CLUB Couldn't sleep....oh well. First show in Canada Vancouver!!! It's been two years since we last played here. The last time we played was in Toronto and Montreal. It's our first time in Vancouver. I wonder how the crowd will react, very excited!! Had dinner at Burger King (due to re-open in Japan again). Their whoppers are great! I lover Burger King!! Still junk food but lots of vegetables. When Burger King evacuated from Japan I was really in deep shock! Alright Showtime!!!! OH NO! Fumi's bass is in trouble!!! Yes, I'm beginning to get my instincts back on how tuff it is to tour outside Japan....(Ha!!) I was getting used to the convenient shows in Japan, so this first show really revived my senses. Surprised to hear that 360 people showed up to see us!!!! Thank you. But the venue was too dark and I couldn't see at all!!(Hahaha) January 27th Saturday Seattle/EL CORAZONE Then to Seattle!! The venue was the set for the grunge movie "Singles"!! We played in Seattle two years ago. Last time, I forgot my sunglasses and badge in Olympia and played with only one badge I got from the merch.... very rare, "almost naked". This time we had some trouble with the equipment at the beginning of the show , overall it was good!! At the end of the show, I shouted "We love SEATTLE!!! We love U WA JI MA YA!!!!" (hahaha!!) January 28th Sunday Portland/Dante's Here we are Portland!! Feels like the temperature is very low...... The venue looks good!!! A great place for DEVO fans. When "The Punk Group" covered DEVO's "That's good" , Gerry suddenly jumped on stage and performed with them. While I was doing merch before ShowTime, this man who came up and spoke some Japanese. He first said "Konnichiwa"(meaning Hi in Japanese) then was checking the merch. When I recommended our t-shirts, he said in Japanese "It's winter now!!!!!" Amazing!! Wow, very new!! The show itself was good but it was too dark on stage. I couldn't see what I was playing plus bass trouble again. We've not played satisfying show yet on this tour but will do so soon! Anyways, everyone loves "I My Me Mine". So on with the tour.....

BBC SESSION DAA!
4th July BBC Session
End of our short UK tour, today it's our second BBC session. This "BBC session" is a recording session for UK's national radio BBC. On aired after the recordings.
This session has a very long history. Many legendary artists including LED ZEPPELIN, DAVID BOWIE, TALKING HEADS, XTC have performed on this studio session. The last time we performed, it was on the "John Peel Session" which was also a very long historical program with John Peel as DJ. He would on air his recommanding bands and has been always been known to play the most coolest music of the time. A real legendary radio program. A lot of bands that I have been influenced by have played here too, I love the "Peel Session" cds, I was very excited when I heard we were going to play on this program.(Shortly after, John Peel passed away and the radio show ended. POLYSICS performed seemed to have been the last John Peel session)
So I am "specially excited" to be able to be here again! We load in our equipment and on with the recording!! Everything is recorded at once! (no dubbings. Must play solo too!) Sang at the same time also. Recorded four songs. From my side, this session's special distinctive character is a that "the recordings are like inbetween a live and studio recording" . So as long as no one made a big mistake, we emphasized on the rhythm and the energy. After recordings immediately, mix the songs. POLYSICS' songs played on the BBC mix board, heard through those big speakers. OOOOOH GREAT! The compression sounds very original, the drums, the bass, everything sounds thick!! The vocals sounds very clear, maybe it's because it's being mixed at a broadcast company. Sounds very ROCK. UK must be NO.1 when it comes to "compression"(used in the mixes) Mitchy, the engineer for this session was fabulous. His mix was a class of art and the assistant said we were lucky. During the mix Mitchy mentioned "if John Peel was still alive, you would have defenitely been his favorite band" Thank you! I am flattered!
Everything safely over BBC sessions OVER!! "See you soon", they said to us! Of course, we"ll be back soon!! The France and UK tour was short but nourishing. Fulfilling days.
OK we go home to Japan!!! And more SHOWS!!

LIVE!LIVE!LIVE!
2nd,July, Brighton/Concord2 Alright! Here we are! POLYSICS' favorite city Brighton! And will play hard again today! It's sure hot here in the UK this time. No different from Japan's heatwave. Today's temperature is 33 degrees?????? Where am I?? Is this really the UK?? I thought it was supposed to be cloudy and cool here. Should feel like "Echo and the Bunnyman" and "The Cure"...I was so hot last night, I couldn't get any sleep YO!YO!YO! Brighton surely looks like summer!. There's a beach right infront of the venue, I see lots of girls in swimsuits, surfer boys, families having fun etc....looks fun....oh well....
After rehearsals head out for our favorite fish and chips. Lots of people arriving but I remember this venue air condition not working so well and can get very humid.
Oh no! I hear there's no air conditioning!? Oh course, not shows during this time of the season so it there was no problem without air conditioning....will this show be OK???(Actually hardly any air conditioning in the UK)
And as imagined, the show was the hottest most humid show POLYSICS ever experienced. Will die! The promoter said "It was the most hottest show I've ever seen in these 30 years YO! A very frank thankful comment. Even though the stage was super hot we played the entire setlist, did not take off my uniform(haha!). We played like we always do. Hard! I really want to praise myself. GOOD JOB!!!!!!
3rd, July Bristol / The Fleece Here we are Bristol!! Hometown of Underworld!! I am looking forward to this show! Finish rehearsals, head out to Pizza Hut and had something to eat. I always enjoy eating pizza. Make me feel happy. Then I see guys in a Polysics suit!! Complete copy!! They really good look in the suit. The support band "An Emergency" was real cool. A twin guitar drum three piece band, no bass. Punk rock with interesting rhythm patterns!! I bought their cd. Showtime! But doesn't feel like Bristol. I had this illusion as if I was playing in Texas. The crowd was very hot! Eccentric!! Nothing like techno and cool Underground. Everyone was looked exciting, high tensed! A fun night!! Also there were some fans from Japan who came all the way to the the Bristol and London show. Thank you! They even gave me a souvenier. A book about the Japanese super hero "Denji-man" Rad stuff!!!!!
4th July, London/ The Garage Today's the last show for our short UK tour. We play at the " The Garage". It's been almost two years since we last played here. The doors open, lots of people coming in! Hot already! No air conditioning here as well. I see this gigantic fan electric fan groaning hard in the corner of the room... will this be another hot Brighton night? Hot indeed, for I was already soaked in my sweat when I was ay the merch table. We play with Data Panic from Glasgow. I presented Mandarine and Stewart, Maki Nomiya's Solo work album "PINK NO KOKORO"(meaning a pink heart....Maki Nomiya is Piccato Five's vocalist. The band for this is album is Moon Riders, another famous Japanese band. A very stylish pop album. If interested, Must buy!) I hope they enjoy the album.
Their show was great! A strong disco punk sound that makes me excited. Off stage, Manderine came up to me and said " Good Luck!" I can imagine from these words how hot the stage can be....OH NOOOOOOO! OK POLYSICS TIME!! LONDON IS REALLY HOT!! From the beginning of "Coelakanth Is Android" everyone was singing along. Great! Same with "I My Me Mine" The entire crowd must have been singing along to this song. "Is this a mega hit song?" I wondered....really it was that hot! When I said "Still alive? Dead or alive?" in between the songs and sang Dead or Alive's " You Spin Me Round", the crowd too sang along to this!! Fun!! Should try Human League the next time!! H And to cover the heat within the stage like in Brighton, wetted the towels in a bucket with ice water and wrapped it around my neck and cooled my face down in between the songs. The show was safely over. GOOD TOO!! The crowd in LONDON seems to be waiting for us, a stronger feeling than what I first experienced two years ago. Thank you, so happy.
Tomorrow is our second BBC session!!

A HISTORICAL MOMENT
1st July France to London(Travel Day) Our flight was heavily delayed due to some kind of trouble that occurred within our airline company, but safely to London!! Met up with our UK tour manager Phil, loaded in our bags and to the hotel!! We were just in the midst of the WORLD CUP GAME between England and Portugal. Phil had the radio on LOUD and supporting seriouslyy!! I think his driving was a bit fast since he was so excited!! Unfortunately after PK, they lost. Phil was extremely sad.
As we got the hotel, to my surprised depressed Phil suddenly says "Roger Waters is holding an open air concert at Hyde Park! Let's all go!! FXXX!Football!!(I think he said to vent his anger!) Roger Waters, former Pink Floyd vocalist & bassist. He is holding a concert with the project name "The Dark Side Of the Moon". Phil got us tickets too!! WOOOOW!!
"The Dark Side of the Moon" is a record that was released about thirty years ago and still selling worldwide. One of the monumentally albums of progressive rock. A very important item among the rock history and has a big influence on various music genres. In Japanese called "KYOUKI". I my self am a King Crimson fan when it comes to Progressive Rock but I want to see this!!
But at the same time thought...will be show be really good??....will it just be"Money"?? and over with the show??... I was quite tired after the trip...just wanted to take it easy in my hotel room, having Kentucky Fried Chicken and Beer. So which should I choose? Colonel Sanders or Roger? I decided to head out to the concert.
The show had already begun. A big crowd! There must be about 50,000 people here!! WOW!! First, I buy fried chicken and a beer, sat of the floor!! This is a festival mood!! I am enjoying this already. I'm glad I came. Feels good. Roger's singing is great. It hasn't changed over the years and the playing was strong. When the main performance finished, Roger quoted "See you in ten minutes" and left the stage. Fifteen minutes later Roger got back on stage and introduced the drummer,"Nick Mason". He is the original drummer of Pink Floyd!! Then I hear the a large heart beat sound and a collage of sounds and laughs reverberated the area. Then the song "Speak To Me" begins!! Wait!! Is this a complete reproduction of the album The Dark Side Of The Moon!? Next, I hear that fast high-hat pattern and the electronic sound of the arpeggiator!! It's "On the Run" This song has been my heavy rotation in high school. Thinking then...."this is original techno". OH NO! I was really moved. The sound and screen linking, the speaker system with a 5.1 channel reproduced the outlook of the album, totally outraging! When I heard the intro of "Money" it really did give me goosebumps. The more of explain, the longer this will get, so I going to omit the rest. Anyways from then on it was welcome to the world of "The Dark Side Of the Moon" A Fasincating concert.
Doesn't sound old at all. The message still lives on which is great. I hope I can be able to create this kind of music. My legs were exhausted but it was worth it. I was happy to be able to experience this historical moment. I'm glad I didn't pick "Stay in my hotel room, have Kentucky Fried Chicken and beer!" This concert was called "Hyde Park Calling 2006" and by the way, tomorrow "The Who" will perform. I want to see this too!!! The UK is great!!

IN FRANCE ZAEMAESU!!
29th, June From Japan to France Tois bonjour! Right after our show in Saitama, Japan, 10:00am in the morning, headed off to France to play at the EUROCKEENNES2006 then we do a short UK TOUR. I am sleepy!! On the plane I listened seriously to DEVO on my iPod, read the subcultural Japanese magazine VOW!18, and drank beer. A long eleven hour flight. We arrived at Zurich International Airport in Switzerland, crossed the border by car and safely, here we are France!!! My first time in this country and my impression ? The weather feels great!......and I can't read the signs nor can't understand a word!! Good thing is our sound man Arnold is French. He's our interpreter, tour manager for this tour. Merci! Me and a couple of the members who don't understand a word of French headed out to a local restaurant for dinner. No one could read the menu!! But somehow managed to order, asking the people working there plus figuring out ourselves. Wow, an adventure!! Minutes later, the menu was served. Lots of food!! A big piece of meat! Lots of cabbage with vinegar! The food was totally different from what I imagined. I thought of a dish like those seen in a cooking book but NO! This is dynamic! Plus it really tastes good!! Yano kept repeating " this is good!" every 10 minutes. The first day in France a satisfying day with A good French dinners. The food and wine was really delicious. Tomorrow, will rock HARD!!
30th, June France EUROCKEENNESS2006 GOOD MORNING!! SHOW DAY!!!! Bought some food a the local supermarket and to Belfort. Feel the festival mood. Looks fun!! As we arrive at the site, see that's it surrounded by a forest and lake. The weather is fabulous, this is a happy mood. The sunlight is strong but the air is cool. GREAT! Our dressing room looks like a nomadic tent. Are we excited!! I really am happy to be here. We did a couple of interviews with a local radio broadcast. Looked around and enjoyed the atmosphere. OK almost showtime!
We set up our backline and during sound check I see someone singing along to "I My Me Mine"! Hmmm....interesting. While we see more people gather, we end our sound check by playing "For Young Electric Pop" which is not on our setlist for today. Everything was perfect on stage. Change into our uniforms and HERE WE GO!! The Robot Voice introductory in French begins(Our tour roady TUCCHI's been doing this since our last UK TOUR. Sounds like Kraftwerk...very coolYO), we hear our Sound Effect, to stage, YES! Lots of people!! Thank you! I am so HAPPY!! I scream out "BONJOUR ! NOUS SOMMES POLYSICS ! NOUS SOMMES DE TOKYO JAPON ! (HELLO! WE ARE POLYSICS! FROM TOKYO JAPAN! in french) and LET THE SHOW START! Everyone looks excited and going wild!! A great audience!Nothing like it! I understand the crowd going crazy during songs like "BUGGIE TECHNICA", "KAJA KAJA GOO" but I was surprised to see they enjoyed our news song "MUSUNDE HIRAITE"(open then close in Japanese) "Ah-Yeah!" "Life In Yellow". These songs are more shrilling and harsh but the crowd liked it. Interesting to see difference music tastes among the various countries we've performed. The audience was singing along to the chorus part of "I My Me Mine" which sounded like a soccer cheer. I was very very happy and excited to hear this. Actually the members were a bit tense during the beginning of the stage, but as we played on, it got more fun. I think the show was great and most of all being able to be one with the audience. Backstage after the show, the members looked both mentally and physically exhausted. No one had the energy to go see Dafpunk and since we had an early start the next day, headed back to the hotel. YES, EUROCKNESS ROCKS!! FRANCE ROCKS!! POLYSICS likes France. We'll be back!!

GO GO KICKERS!
The WORLD CUP is hot! Will give a good effect on the Japanese economy! Polysics was working in the studio during the Japan against Croatia game so of course I had no chance to watch,YO!! When things were finished,I switched on the studio TV. The first half was just over. Good Timing! I was planning on watching the second half but for some reason was not in the mood. I wanted to work on stuff for our live act, so me, Fumi and Yano headed home. Hey! Give some support!!(Haha) (Kayo, our manager and director stayed on and watched the game) I wonder why I wasn't into it. Same goes for when Japan won the World Baseball Classic(WBC). It was right during Polysicsf US tour and I had no idea that Japan was going crazy.( I found this out reading a friendfs website)
Anyways, POLYSICS seems to be one of the bands that are less interested in sports among the Japanese Rock Music Community.
But I used to play soccer in my younger days. Starting from elementary till the beginning of high school. When the Japan League started I used to go to the games a lot. Particularly to watch the team Sanfrecce Hiroshima. Then WHY am I not into the games now?
This must go back to my soccer days in high school. During practice was I has heading for the ball in the air, I had this sort of scramble with another teammate. My jump lacked height and the other teammate heading hit my jaw hard.BANG!! Heavily I hit the ground and to the hospital. After being examined but still in pain, I returned to school. The captain of the team came up to me and said gAre you OK? Get better! Wefre all waiting for you! Hurry back to practice!h. I said gYes, I willh but as I looked back, everyone in the team was shouting all together practicing hard. As I watched this, I thought gI donft belong here. I think I should focus on musich. I later quit the team and since then my high schools days were mainly about playing in a band. Maybe I hit a vital point?(haha) True, since that day on, something in me had changed. I headed back home listening to KRAFTWERKfs THE MIX on my walkman with a puffy red jaw. The song did deeply get to young Hiro's soul.
The WORLD CUP 2006 held in Germany brought back this memory. The names of the cities and stadiums are fully cool. I think they sound really techno.

1 MAY/UK TOUR DIARY
1 MAY London / 93ft East Last show for this tour. Here we are in London. The place is packed!! Will do a show good!! Right now I have this petit boom of using the gstraighth stand up microphone stand. Will use it today also. Yes, a good shape, I like this!! Plus, the London crowd's HOT!! Everyone's singing along!! During gI My Me Mineh, the audience sang along the recorder verse. Sounded like a football cheer!! Wow NEAT!! But there we lots of people diving, so it wasnft such a happy atmosphere on stage, rather pretty tense. But thanks to the HOT audiences and the place feeling boiling steaming hot, this show certainly did wonderfully round off the tour.
On this tour, we played various size venues. From super tiny ones to stadiums holding 13000people. We were able to meet and be friends with a lot of people too...staff members, audiences. A very good experience. Plus reminded me of my original purpose. I want to take this feeling back home with me and show it on stage!!!! OK!!!!! Next we play AX( venue in Shibuya Japan)!!!! I AM EXCITED!!!! WILL ROCK!!!!
